EPA Regulations & Bund Wall Standards
What is a Bund Wall?
A bund wall (or bundwall) is a secondary containment structure designed to prevent environmental contamination from fuel storage tank spills or leaks. Required by EPA regulations for facilities storing petroleum products, bund walls must contain 110% of the largest tank or 100% plus 10% of other tanks.
How to Use This Bund Wall Calculator:
1. Select your units (imperial/metric)
2. Choose EPA compliance mode for your application
3. Enter tank dimensions and fuel storage capacity
4. Set safety clearances and plinth offsets
5. Calculate to get EPA-compliant bund wall dimensions
6. Review the visual diagram and export results
EPA & International Bund Wall Standards:
EPA 40 CFR 112 - SPCC
Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure rule. Requires 110% containment of largest tank or 100% + 10% of others.
OSHA 1910.106
Flammable liquids storage requirements including tank spacing, ventilation, and fire protection measures.
NFPA 30
Flammable and Combustible Liquids Code. Covers tank design, installation, and secondary containment requirements.
UK HSE Containment
UK Health and Safety Executive guidance on containment systems for hazardous substances.
API Standards
American Petroleum Institute standards for petroleum storage tank design and operation.
Jamaica NEPA
National Environment & Planning Agency - Jamaica's environmental regulatory authority for fuel storage compliance.
Common Bund Wall Applications:
• Diesel fuel storage tanks at industrial facilities
• Gasoline stations and fuel depots
• Heavy fuel oil (HFO) storage for power generation
• Chemical storage facilities
• Agricultural fuel storage
• Marine fuel facilities and marinas
• Aviation fuel storage at airports
• Caribbean and Jamaica fuel infrastructure
